FEMMES  FATALES

 

Tal vez este apelativo, en francés, se deba al poeta Baudelaire, que lo arrebató de un inconsciente colectivo que, de algún modo, identifica la belleza femenina con la muerte.

 

La íntima relación entre ambas ha obsesionado a muchos poetas, como a Poe, que decía que la muerte de una mujer bella era el tema más poético del mundo.

 

Sin embargo, mi inspiración discurre por otros caminos. Mis Femmes Fatales son voluptuosas, palpitan con el sol y son ajenas a las sombras de la muerte.             

Sus nombres nos remiten a la mitología.

 

  Pandora, la primera mujer de nuestro origen griego, y origen también de esta serie.

 

  Lilith, la 1º mujer hebrea y Eva, las dos mujeres del hombre Adán.

 

  Helena, la bella inevitable y arquetípica.

 

  Carmen, tal vez por la influencia en mí de Andalucía y su luz….

  Pisione, la sirena.

 

Los perfiles de mujer, cortados con láser sobre una plancha de metal ovalada de 120 cm. de altura y 55 cm. de ancho, están iluminados.

 

Cada plancha ha sido coloreada con pinturas y pigmentos.

 

Después de haber acabado la serie sobre metal, empecé otra sobre diversos soportes. Añadí sirenas, seres femeninos mitológicos que encarnan, como las F.F., los peligros de la seducción

  

FEMMES  FATALES

 

Maybe we owe the coining of the French phrase to Baudelaire who clawed it out of a collective subconscious which somehow identifies the idea of feminine beauty with death.

 

The intimate relationship between the two has obsessed many poets such as Poe who said that the death of a beautiful woman was the most poetical subject in the world. 

 

However, my inspiration follows different paths. My Femmes Fatales are voluptuous, beneath the light of the sun they pulsate; the shadow of death is alien to them.

Their names carry us to a world of lore and myth:

 

  Pandora, the primordial woman of our Greek origins. She is the origin, too, of this series.

 

  Lilith, the first Hebrew woman and Eve: the two wives of the man, Adam.

 

  Helen, inescapable and archetypal beauty.

 

  Carmen, perhaps because of my falling under the influence of Andalucía and its light…

  Pisione, the siren.

 

These profiles of women have been laser cut onto oval sheet metal (550mmx1200mm). They are lit.

 

Each sheet has been coloured with various paints. After finishing the series on metal I started another using other formats.

 

I added sirens, mythological female creatures who, like the femmes fatales, make flesh the dangers of seduction.
